Let's hear it for the Boyce!
The eight top-class Organists post-organ gala!
The eight top-class Organists post-organ gala!

On Tuesday, 25th April, the College held its first Organ Extravaganza concert in aid of the Organ Restoration Fund. Eight local organists: James Luxton, Tim Harvey, Geoff Williams, Dan Bishop, Lee Ward, Dan Mansfield, Ian Wells and David Stokes all came to perform an excellent and enjoyable music programme along with some students who formed The College Brass & Percussion Ensemble!

The programme consisted of pieces by Henry Purcell, L.A.J. Lefebure-Wely, Fredrik Sixten, Nigel Ogden, John Philip Sousa, Enrico Pasini, Flor Peeters, Noel Rawsthorne, Maria Theresia von Paradis, Douglas E. Wagner, Grayston Ives and William Boyce along with a fanfare arrangement by Daniel Bishop.

The concert commenced at 7 pm with the Assistant College Organist, Lewis Harvey, welcoming the 60 audience members to a thrilling concert! The concert opened with The College Brass & Percussion Ensemble performing Henry Purcell's renowned Trumpet Voluntary, and the organists followed suit!

At the end of the concert, all eight organists were invited to come up and take a bow as they received tremendous applause from the audience. Thereafter, the crowd dispersed as everyone was in high spirits and went their separate ways.

The musicians, for now, can rest before the work on the second Organ Gala commences!

All payments go to the Organ Restoration Fund. And it's not too late if you still wish to donate to the fund. You can do that here.

A recorded copy of the concert will be available to purchase on the shop section of the website over the next few days!

Here is a sneak preview of one track taken from the CD/Mp3, Washington Post by John Philip Sousa, which can be listened to on The Lerpoolians YouTube Channel.
