Just in case anybody remembers him, my dad the Revd John Macaulay, who was Liverpool College chaplain for a period in the 1980s and early 1990s, passed away peacefully this morning with his closest family by his side.
His time at the college was always very special to him and it was the source of some of his happiest memories.
My dad became chaplain at the College in 1981, I think. I do remember that in the summer of 1981, I joined in the final year at David House, and he was already working there.
He taught Religious Studies, of course, and also maths. And I know that while he was very pleased to have a parish again after his retirement from teaching, he thoroughly enjoyed his time at Liverpool.College. He was proud to be "The Rev" to so many pupils.
The funeral details are as follows -
11.30 am on Friday 14th, April at Wigan Parish Church, followed by the committal at Wigan Crematorium.
Lerpoolians will be most welcome to attend.

So sorry to hear this sad news; he was a great man and will be missed RIP. We used to live on the same Avenue as each other, as did a couple of other teachers. I used to babysit you two when your parents used to go out ... that was about 40 years ago Love and respect to a lovely man Matt and Vicky xx

So sorry to hear your sad news. John was a truly inspirational teacher at school, and he also happened to grow up with my mum near Wigan. They used to spend the time at parents’ evenings reminiscing about Up Holland! I also used to babysit for you occasionally! I remember with great affection his anecdotes about life as a vicar and Wigan rugby league. He was definitely one of the good guys. Please accept my (and my mother’s) condolences.

Sorry to hear your sad news, Matt. I was the year below you, so left in 91, but every now and then, I'll tell a 'funny' about what your dad said in lessons or on the rugby pitch. He made a good lasting impression. He was a great guy, and whilst there will be sadness, I hope you can take some comfort in his lasting legacy. RIP the Rev!

Our sympathy and love to you and all the family, Matthew. He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humour. He officiated at our "secret" wedding in the Chapel in 1985, with only your mum and John and Veronique Wood in attendance and Eve and Lydia as bridesmaids. We have many happy memories of times with them both. xx

Sad news, Matt. I'd left by the time your dad joined the staff to replace Reg Beevers. I wonder, though, how many knew that he captained the all-conquering Liverpool Diocesan Clergy XI to a record number of final wins. Some great memories of trips to the Walker Ground in Southgate, London, for those games. You would never have guessed it was a group of clergy who drank the train dry in celebration en route home to Lime Street! Happy days indeed.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. RIP
