Where are the members of the Class of 2004?

For your pleasure, we produce photographs of the four classes from the Lower IV year of 1997-98. Were you in the Class of 2004?

You might not have been in the Class of 2004, but we thought we'd highlight some of the stories making the news in 1997/8 and 2004.

If you weren't at school, tell us what you were doing in 1997/8 and 2004 or what your memories were of those two years.

If you were still at Liverpool College, read on.

So, what was so special about 1997-98? Well, for a start, all of you in these photos were in the Lower IVs. More precisely, Lower IV P, Tutor Miss P Ryan, Lower IV Q, Tutor Mr T Halsall, Lower IV R, Tutor Mr M Broughton and Lower IV S, Tutor Miss L Hamilton.

Here are some headlines from 1998.

  • February, the Winter Olympics took place in Japan.
  • April, the Good Friday Agreement was signed in Northern Ireland.
  • May, the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Birmingham (coming soon to Liverpool in 2023).
  • In June, the DVD format was approved for the UK.
  • September, the Union Jack dress worn by Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is sold at auction for £41,320.
  • November, the Human Rights Act receives Royal Assent.

And here are some from 2004

  • January, 57-year-old serial killer Dr. Harold Shipman is found dead in his cell one day prior to his fifty-eighth birthday following his suicide by hanging.
  • February, A party of Chinese cockle pickers is caught by the tides at night in Morecambe Bay, Lancashire, drowning 23 people.
  • April, Landmark office building 30 St Mary Axe ("The Gherkin") in the City of London, designed by Norman Foster, opens.
  • June,  Liverpool F.C. appoint the Spaniard Rafael Benítez as their new manager.
  • August,  Kelly Holmes wins her second gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
  • October, British hostage Ken Bigley, of Liverpool, is beheaded by militants in Iraq.
  • December, 150 British people are among thousands of people killed by the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in and across South and Southeast Asia during a Christmas holiday and Boxing Day celebration.

Can you find yourself in the photos? Tell us what you are doing now; it would be great if you would share your news. It can be a paragraph or two. Or perhaps you'd like to share more. That's fine as well. Even better, tell us your memories or stories about your pals. (If they aren't Online members, then they can't complain, can they?)

Also, tell us your memories of your Form Tutors.

As you can read elsewhere, we have many members who update our community with what they have been doing. It's always a pleasure to read these stories. Also, don't forget to update your Profile Details with your education and career/job status.

Nine from the Class of 2004 are presently registered as online members of The Lerpoolians. Where are the rest of them? Do you know? You can look for your pals by using the "Network" tab at the top of the home page. Or use the "Invite a friend" at the very top of the Home Page to send an invitation to your friends who have yet to join The Lerpoolians. Let's see if we can double the number of Online members from the Class of 2004.
