The photograph above was taken in the grounds of David House, probably by the wonderful Miss Barrow. I remember how we used to lie down on the floor after lunch while she read to us, most memorably (for me) from Pilgrim's Progress. I can still hear her voice speaking across the years of his friend Faithful, the Slough of despond and the Celestial City. We kept in touch for a short while after I left the College in 1961. I also have fond memories of Miss Hollins and Mrs Angel. I have never forgiven Miss Cox, though, for encouraging the class to laugh at me for still believing in Father Christmas at the age of seven. I had the distinct impression that some of those laughing were also true believers, grateful that her sneers had been directed to me and not them! It's a shame that such an incident should mar those otherwise blessed years. Planting seeds so the flowers would spell out our initials, the percussion band (I was 3rd triangle) and above all Eleanor Barrow's love for her job shine through still.
